The Île de Ré, an original and delightful wine tourism destination

Due to its extremely favourable climatic and geological conditions, the Île de Ré is home to grape varieties with traditional flavours. The region produces the famous Pineau des Charentes, cognac and various rosé, red and white wines.

During your wine tourism holiday on the Île de Ré, you can go and meet the vignerons, talk to them about their work and the riches of the terroir of the Île de Ré.

Here, the climate is temperate, and the island benefits long hours of sunshine. Chalky or chalky-clay soils mixed with sand and marine deposits enable vinification that results in wines of character. These specific conditions mean that the local vines are better protected from certain climatic risks, such as frost, than those on the mainland.

In terms of grape varieties, the Island’s wines mainly feature:

  • Merlot
  • Cabernet Sauvignon
  • Négrette
  • Cabernet Franc in the red wines
  • Chardonnay
  • Sauvignon Blanc
  • Colombard in the white wines
  • Ugni Blanc (for cognacs and pineaux des Charentes)

The island’s vineyards can also be explored by bike or on horseback. Our reception team is available to help you organise days out on the wine roads of the Île de Ré.

And on your return to the hotel, you can enjoy Bar 1721, a stylish place where a fine selection of local wines* is available.
